WAIKOLOA, Hawaii — In a release issued Sunday evening, Hawaii County reported that a small, approximately 70-acre wildland fire in Waikoloa has been predominantly contained.

Firefighting operations continued throughout Sunday night to address several hot spots.

Pua Amelia Street will remain closed until further notice to ensure public safety and allow firefighters to continue operations.

No structures are threatened thanks to winds pushing the fire southward away from residential areas said county officials, although residents are being asked to remain vigilant and avoid the area.

The county will provide updates pending any substantial changes.
