CBS announced Friday the cancellation of “NCIS: Hawaii,” according to Deadline.
The end of “NCIS: Hawaii” means CBS won’t be filming a show in Hawaii for the first time since 2010, as “Hawaii Five-0” and “Magnum P.I.” have also ended their runs.
The show was the first in the franchise with a female lead. Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey, was the head of the fictional Naval Criminal Investigation Service at the Pearl Harbor Field Office.
The Season 3 final episode of “NCIS: Hawaii” will air on May 6. According to Deadline, the episode was not meant to be a season finale and will leave viewers with a cliffhanger.
Deadline reported that “NCIS: Hawaii” was CBS’s twelfth most watched non-sports show on broadcast with 7.8 million viewers. The show also had 10 million viewers, when looking at multi-platform statistics, like streaming.
The show's cancellation likely came down to money, according to Deadline. CBS’ parent company is preparing to sell, so it wasn’t willing to wait to see if it would become a bigger moneymaker like its franchise predecessors.
