GREENVILLE, N.C. — Power has been mostly restored after a widespread outage affected thousands of customers Saturday morning in Greenville.

The Greenville Utilities Commission said crews had fully restored power to residential customers by about 12:15 p.m., adding that they had turned their focus to industrial customers.

Thousands of customers lost power hours earlier in the Pitt County city in eastern North Carolina, according to the tracking website poweroutage.us. About 74,000 customers are tracked by the site in the county.

The Greenville Police Department said at about 10 a.m. that officers had been stationed at intersections to direct traffic.

The Greenville Utilities Commission is one of several power utilities serving Pitt County.
