Maricopa County attorney Rachel Mitchell said officials will not agree to extradite 26-year-old Raad Almonsoori to New York, criticizing Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

“This is not aimed at the New York Police Department at all, having observed the treatment of violent criminals in the New York area by the Manhattan DA there, Alvin Bragg, I think it’s safer to keep him here and keep him in custody,” Mitchell said.

Police claim Almonsoori killed 38-year-old Denisse Oleas-Arancibia of Queens when he allegedly beat her with an iron at SoHo 54 hotel nearly two weeks ago.

Mitchell seemingly refers to recent criminal cases in which Bragg has come under fire.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Manhattan DA’s office called the decision deeply disturbing, “New York’s murder rate is less than half that of Phoenix, Arizona, because of the hard work of the NYPD and all of our law enforcement partners. It is a slap in the face to them and to the victim in our case to refuse to allow us to seek justice and full accountability for a New Yorker’s death.”

Police said Almonsoori has a lengthy arrest record in other states, including domestic violence and assault. He was arrested Sunday for stabbing an 18-year-old woman in the city of Surprise, Arizona.

“While speaking with a Surprise detective, Almonsoori indicated he was involved in a stabbing incident in Phoenix, Arizona and a murder incident in New York City, New York,” said Seargeant Rick Hernandez of Surprise Police Department.

The Manhattan DA’s office said murders are down 24% in the city since Bragg took office.

Meanwhile, Almonsoori is being held in Maricopa County without bail.
