The city is expecting severe weather on Sunday and Monday, with heavy rain and high winds in the forecast.
In anticipation of the bad weather, this weekend’s Fifth Avenue Holiday Open Street event has been suspended.
The popular holiday event closes portions of Fifth Avenue to vehicular traffic on three Sundays in December.
Fifth Avenue is closed from 48th Street to 59th Street during the Manhattan event, which is in its second year.
Last Sunday’s kick-off of Open Street continued even though there was some rain.
Cars will now be allowed to drive through Fifth Avenue this Sunday. However, flooding on streets and highways is possible as the severe weather moves in.
Winds could gust as high as 50 mph through Sunday night. Rainfall totals of up to 2 inches are expected.
Meanwhile, there is no indication yet if this weekend’s Holiday Open Street will be rescheduled for another day.
Currently, the last chance to experience Fifth Avenue Holiday Open Street in 2023 is on Sunday, Dec. 17 from noon until 6 p.m.
