New York City Marathon runners will travel more than 26 miles through all five boroughs and end in Central Park.

“I decided after a few years of watching, it was time to get involved,” said marathon runner Kadian Sacripanti.

This year is Sacripanti, and her friend Danielle Delapaz’s first time running a marathon. They’re running with the organization Team for Kids.

“Team for Kids raises crucial funds for children in the city to be able to do recreational activities, to run and stay healthy,” Delapaz said.

The friends are taking part in a Wednesday night run with members of New York Road Runners. It will be one of their last runs before Sunday’s New York City Marathon.

More than 50,000 people from more than 150 countries are running this year. Thousands will watch them along the sidelines, including the NYPD.

“There are currently no credible or specific threats to the marathon or to our city,” said NYPD commissioner Edward Caban.

At the ceremonial painting of the blue line Wednesday morning, NYPD officials said the marathon course will have layers of protection.

“We’re going to have a particularly robust counter-terrorism overlay at this year’s marathon, which will include heavy weapon teams, K-9 special vapor weight detection K-9’s, radiation detection patrols,” said Rebecca Weiner, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism.

The marathon is led by New York Road Runners. Their CEO, Rob Simmelkjaer, said the organization has conversations with the NYPD throughout the year.

“We went through all kinds of scenarios just to make sure everyone is ready and people know what they need to do to respond to anything,” Simmelkjaer said.

For seasoned-runner Carla Rose, she said she’s confident in the NYPD.

“I just put my sneakers on and show up. I’m a New Yorker tried and true. Born in Brooklyn, live in Manhattan,” Rose said.

Police ask spectators to call 1-888-NYC-SAFE if they have any safety concerns.

There will also be mobile response teams, plain-clothed and uniformed officers and hundred of cameras throughout the course.
