Across New York City, there are groups of volunteers that make up community boards. There are 59 of them.

It’s a way for people to have their voices and opinions heard, and for those to be directed to elected officials. They make recommendations on the budget process and have contact with city agencies about neighborhood needs.

As part of NY1’s In The Neighborhood series, NY1 met with the chair of Community Board 7 in Manhattan. It covers the Upper West Side.

Beverly Donahue is the chair of Community Board 7 in Manhattan. NY1 gave her the chance to meet at a location of her choosing, to walk around the block to discuss its significance and what is happening in her neighborhood.
