The annual Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade has been canceled this year, and possibly indefinitely, according to event organizers.

In a post on the event’s website, organizers wrote that the parade has been canceled “for the foreseeable future.” Elaborating on Instagram, hosts cited ongoing construction work inside the park as a reason for the cancellation.

“Despite our best efforts to keep the parade going, with ongoing building work in both our local parks there was just no way to hold the parade this year,” the post read.

Those looking to participate in an in-person puppy costume contest can still join the Great Pupkin Contest in Fort Greene, held this year at noon on Saturday, Oct. 28.
