LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro council members Ben Reno-Weber and Andrew Owen are implementing a plan to increase the quality of life and address crime. This follows an August community meeting on public safety.

“We’re trying to balance a desire for people to feel safe, on Bardstown Road and in the surrounding areas,” Reno-Weber, District 8 council member said. “We’re trying to balance having a vibrant entertainment and retail corridor.” 

Reno-Weber represents the Highlands, where many bars and entertainment venues are located. 

“I think it’s really important to remember that most of the business owners in all of these corridors are aware that part of the magic is that people live close to them and they want to be good neighbors,” Reno-Weber said. 

The Louisville Metro Police Department will patrol Bardstown Road, Baxter Avenue, Frankfort Avenue and Brownsboro Road. 

Rick Bartlett, the owner of Ricky B’s Club Cafe on Brownsboro Road, said he is optimistic about the added presence. 

“I certainly think that is a step in the right direction and, you know, us as business owners are aware of possible things that could be developing and fix them right away,” Bartlett said.  

The officers will conduct walking patrols and traffic enforcement. 

The community can expect to see increased police presence until Sept. 16. 

“I’m glad to have the two weeks and see what develops beyond that point and then whether or not within that a judgment can be made into how effective it was,” Bartlett said.

Alcoholic Beverage Control officials will start fining businesses if manufactured noise can be heard from over 50-feet away.
