As you know, NY1 anchor Ruschell Boone has been battling pancreatic cancer for the past year.
One of the organizations that reached out and offered support is the Lustgarten Foundation.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 64,000 people will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer this year, which makes what the foundation is doing so critical to so many.
Lustgarten Foundation CEO Linda Tantawi joined “News All Day” Thursday with more on their work.
The organization has raised over $250 million for research into the disease.
Tantawi says the money has helped lead to more progress, including potential vaccines.
They’re also focused on finding new and better therapies.
When a patient is first diagnosed, Tantawi suggests that they be treated at a high-volume medical center that offers multi-disciplinary care.
And always remember to get a second opinion.
