Police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that killed a 15-year-old boy in Manhattan, NYPD officials said Monday.
The 15-year-old boy was fatally shot on a basketball court at Riverbank State Park in Harlem Saturday evening, police said.
Officers spotted a man who matched a description of the suspect disposing of a gun not long after, NYPD Assistant Chief Joseph Kenny said at a news briefing Monday afternoon.

- The shooting came a day after a 5-year-old girl was shot and injured as she sat inside a car in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, the department said. Police are searching for two suspects in connection with the incident

The suspect, identified by police as Anibal Cruz, 36, was arrested on a criminal possession of a weapon charge, Kenny said. His attorney information wasn’t immediately available Monday.
“Currently, the case is being handled by the New York State Police, and we are assisting them in trying to get probable cause on Mr. Cruz,” Kenny said.
That shooting came a day after a 5-year-old girl was shot and injured as she sat inside a car in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx, the NYPD said.
A crowd was gathered at a memorial for a homicide victim near the intersection of East 213th Street and White Plains Road just after 7 p.m. when two cars drove past, Kenny said.
“Shortly after the vehicles passed, the crowd [began] to react to gunfire, which we believe may have been the backfire of a car,” he said.
Reacting to the noise, two men from the crowd ran onto the street and shot at the cars, hitting the 5-year-old girl, Kenny said.
The girl, who is being treated for a gunshot wound to her back, is expected to survive and was listed in stable condition as of Monday, he added.
Police are currently searching for Bronx residents Austin Morrishow, 25, and Curtis White, 26, in connection with the shooting, the NYPD said.
Authorities are also still investigating a shooting that injured four people — including a 12-year-old girl — in the Mount Hope section of the Bronx around 9:45 p.m. on Sunday, Kenny said.
The 12-year-old girl was shot in the right elbow, a 33-year-old woman was shot in the right ankle and a 24-year-old man was shot in the lower leg in front of a building on Eastburn Avenue, near East 175th Street, he said.
A fourth victim of the same shooting, whose age wasn’t released, walked into a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot later that evening, according to Kenny.
No one had been arrested in connection with that shooting as of Monday afternoon.
At Monday’s briefing, NYPD Chief of Crime Control Strategies Michael Lipetri said the department logged nine shootings across the five boroughs between 3 p.m. Friday and Monday morning, seven of which happened in the Bronx.
“The Bronx is the most heavily deployed borough as far as resources that we have given them since the beginning of May,” Lipetri said, adding that the borough has seen “reductions” in shootings since May 4.
Acting NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban said shooting incidents “are down in New York City nearly 25% so far this year, and shooting victims down nearly 27%.”
“But again, as we saw this past weekend, one shooting victim is one too many,” he said.
