A body found in the Hudson River Saturday morning has been identified as 11-year-old Alfa Barrie, the NYPD said.
The NYPD's Emergency Service Unit removed the body from the water at 102nd Street and Riverside Drive at around 7 a.m., police said.
Barrie’s family has been notified, according to police.
The body of 13-year-old Garrett Warren was found Thursday in the East River.
On Saturday, the medical examiner determined Warren’s cause of death to be accidental drowning.
The medical examiner said a cause of death for Barrie is expected to be announced Sunday.
Police said Warren and Barrie were last seen around 6 p.m. on May 12, near East 145th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem.
The boys were reported missing at different times between Sunday and Monday, according to police.
An investigation is ongoing.
Barrie’s family, who live in the Bronx, expressed how they felt after hearing the news.
“How are you feeling at the moment? I feel sad. There is no feeling that can explain how I feel at the moment,” Ibrahim Diallo, Barrie’s brother, said.
Diallo says he hass been doing his best to put on a brave face for his entire family.
However, he admits he is devastated after the NYPD confirmed that his youngest sibling had been found dead.
“Have you had the chance to hide out in a corner and cry? I did feel that. One of the things that I did inside was I went on the side crying. There’s no pain that can experience losing your sibling in this manner,” Diallo said.
As police investigate why the boys’ bodies were discovered so far from each other, Barrie’s uncle says in order for his family to achieve closure, they need answers for his death.
“We need closure and clarity. How did he die? Was he killed by someone? Did someone kidnap him? What happened? We don’t know,” Ahmadou Diallo, Barrie’s uncle, said.
Barrie’s uncle says a final prayer service for his nephew will take place Monday at the Futa Islamic Center on Third Avenue, which the public is invited to attend.
