President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden on Monday welcomed children and families to the White House for the annual Easter Egg Roll, an “egg-cellent” tradition that dates back nearly 150 years.

Roughly 30,000 children attended this year’s event, which included an egg hunt, a talent show, a school house reading area, a a Physical “EGGucation” Zone and the traditional egg roll, where kids use wooden spoons in a race to roll eggs across the White House’s famed South Lawn.

The theme of the event, once again, was “EGGucation,” a nod to Dr. Biden’s more than 30-year career as an educator.

“As your first lady and as a teacher, I’ve seen again and again: Learning doesn’t only happen in a classroom,” Dr. Biden said from a White House balcony, flanked by her husband and two figures in large Easter Bunny costumes. The Bidens debuted a new Easter Bunny mascot on Monday, thanks to the White House Historical Association, a spokesperson for the first lady told CNN.

“There are so many opportunities to learn around us every day, and that’s why we wanted to celebrate our Easter Egg Roll — so we turned the South Lawn into a school community,” she said.

“What brings it to life is all of you,” Dr. Biden said of the guests, which included thousands of military families, caregivers and survivors. “Your laughter, your joy, the art you create and the memories you take home with you. That is what makes this event so special.”

“What I see looking across the South Lawn is a country made up of possibilities,” President Biden said. “Anything’s possible in America if we remember who we are and we do it together.”

Shortly after their brief remarks, the Bidens joined their guests on the lawn for activities, including the Egg Roll.

The president posed for photos, took selfies and greeted guests, while Dr. Biden read the iconic children’s book “Brown Bear Brown Bear” to the gathered children, assisted by her grandson, Beau.

President Biden made waves earlier Monday morning when he told “Today” show host Al Poker that he plans to attend "at least three or four more Easter egg rolls … maybe five, maybe six, what the hell,” a thinly veiled reference to a re-election bid next year.

“I plan on running, Al, but we're not prepared to announce it yet,” the president said.

Several iconic characters were also in attendance at the event, including Snoopy and Charlie Brown, Superman and Wonder Woman of DC Comics fame, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, too, Sesame Street residents Grover, Abby Cadabby and Elmo, SpongeBob Squarepants, Smokey the Bear, the Washington Nationals’ Racing Presidents — Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt — and Gritty, the iconic Philadelphia Flyers’ mascot.

Performances at the event included musical numbers from Disney’s “The Lion King” on Broadway, “The President’s Own” United States Marine Corps Band.
