It was 20 years ago that her story captivated the nation.
Elizabeth Smart was 14 years old when she went missing.
She was taken from her bed in her Salt Lake City home in the middle of the night.
After nine months of being physically, sexually and emotionally abused by her kidnapper, Smart was, remarkably, found safe.
In the years since, Smart has been a leading advocate for missing children and adults.
She’s now partnering up with the Guardian app, which brands itself as using the latest technology to help keep kids safe.
Smart spoke with NY1’s Stef Manisero about how the app works, and about how she’s doing two decades after her traumatic kidnapping.
