Russia pounded targets all over Ukraine yesterday. Some of that bombardment took place in Kviv following a meeting between the U.N. Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and the President of Ukraine.
Before that meeting, Guterres toured some of the destruction while condemning the war. Ukrainian President Volodmyr Zelenskyy says Russia's latest attack is an attempt to humiliate the United Nations.
William Taylor, former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, joined NY1 to provide a deeper understanding of what is happening in Ukraine. He worked under the Bush, Obama, and Trump administration. Taylor is now the Vice President for Russia and Europe at the U.S. Institute of Peace.
Ambassador Taylor says Russia seems to be sending the message that they're not yet deterred by anything the United Nations or NATO has said. Putin is continuing his attacks.
Until Ukraine defeats the Russians, with the support of the United States and NATO, we won't know if our assistance is enough.
Putin wants to dominate Ukraine and deny it it's independence. Ambassador Taylor believes Putin and Russian soldiers will eventually be held accountable if Ukraine wins.
