It’s a special feature on the Cruisers Yachts 38 GLS: a beach door lowers to convert it to a swim platform. It’s just one of the cool high tech designs on one of more than 100 boats of all types at the Javits Center for the Progressive Insurance New York Boat Show.

The show, which also features the newest electronics and boating gear, is back after last year's cancellation due to COVID-19.

What You Need To Know

  • The New York Boat Show runs from January 26-30 at the Javits Center

  • It returns after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic

  • The show features more than 100 boats for every budget and lifestyle, plus the newest electronics and boating gear
  • It is the world's first and longest running boat show, in its 116th year

"This is the world's first and longest running boat show, so it's 116 years strong,” said Carrie Waible, spokesperson for the show. “It’s such a New York tradition, and we are so excited to welcome everybody back to see all the boats.”

This year’s queen of the show, the largest boat being presented, is an Everglades 455. In past years, the queen was a yacht, but this year it’s a fishing boat.

"It's got quad 425 engines, which is so much horsepower you cannot believe, all the electronics, and everything you see here is super high tech,” said Waible, who noted the price is around $1.8 million.

That being said, the show has all types of boats for every budget, like personal watercraft, which go for a few thousand dollars, and even Kayaks.

The boating industry has been booming over the past few years.

The National Marine Manufacturers Association says the industry saw tremendous growth in 2020 with boat sales reaching a 13-year high, and new boat sales this year are projected to be on par with those levels.

“That is huge growth for our industry, which means that the inventory is a little lower, so you are going to see the newest and best boats here where you can actually see what's new, check out the new technology, and place an order for your boat,” said Waible.

Proof of vaccination and masks are required at the show.
