The FDNY lined up in solidarity to mourn one of their own on Tuesday.

"This is certainly heartbreaking for Vincent's family,” FDNY Commissioner, Daniel Nigro said. "It’s heartbreaking for the fire department."

Thirty-one year old Vincent Malveaux was a probationary firefighter who died during a training exercise at the FDNY Training Academy on Randall's Island Friday. He started feeling sick, passed out and later died at Harlem Hospital. His wake was held Tuesday at the Marine Park funeral home.

FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro had nothing but great things to say about the kind of person he was.

"So well liked, he was on his way to a career as a firefighter which was what he wanted,” Nigro said.

He was sworn into the fire academy at the end of October. Before that he was an EMT for four years in the Bronx. He worked on the frontlines throughout the pandemic.

Purple and black bunting was draped over the weekend at Station 19 in the Bronx where he worked.

"In his very short time on the job he left his mark on the department and the city. During his time in EMS he worked tirelessly protecting lives and saving lives,” President FDNY Uniformed Firefighters Association Greater New York, Andrew Ansbro said.

Ansbro never met Malveaux, but only knew how highly his colleagues thought of him.

"I spoke to some of his previous coworkers, they only had amazing things to say,” Ansbro said. “He had done great things for the city and he had potential to do a lot of great things for the fire department and we are all sorry he never got to get in the field and fulfill his dream."
