NEW YORK — Police are continuing their search for the person responsible for shooting a man on a Manhattan subway during the Monday evening rush.

Investigators say the suspect had robbed a bank just 10 minutes beforehand.

They say he was on a northbound N train just before 5 p.m. that was approaching the Union Square station.

He allegedly walked up to a man and demanded his phone. The man started to turn it over, but the suspect shot him in the leg.

Police say the train then pulled into the station and the suspect got away.

Officers had to apply a tourniquet to the victim.

The victim was taken to the hospital and expected to be okay.

Police say just before that incident, the same suspect went into a TD Bank on Canal Street with a gun and demanded money.

The employee turned over about $1,100.

Police say the day before, the suspect allegedly tried robbed a man at a deli in Murray Hill but ended up not taking any money.

No one was injured in those two incidents.
