Search continues for escaped inmate at city jail barge

NEW YORK — The city's Correction Department says search efforts are ongoing for a man who escaped a jail facility overnight.

The DOC says officers discovered 30-year-old David Mordukhaev was missing from his assigned housing area at the Vernon C. Bain Center.

They believe he escaped sometime between 12 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The East River facility has since been placed on lockdown.

Officials say they are investigating how it all happened.
