Police say they have made an arrest in the deadly shooting of a retired officer.
Michael Soto, 33, has been charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and assault.
The incident happened Monday night in Brooklyn.
Police say Soto and an 86-year-old started arguing at a restaurant at East 3rd Street and Church Avenue in Kensington.
The former officer, identified by Police Commissioner Dermot Shea as 57-year-old Thomas Marrinan, and a retired correction officer tried to intervene to help the older man.
Police say the retired correction officer pulled a gun and fired one shot during the melee.
The bullet passed through the suspect's arm and hit the former officer in the chest, killing him, according to police.
Soto was taken to the hospital for treatment and is expected to recover.
At this point, high-ranking police sources say they don't expect for the retired correction officer to be charged with shooting the former officer.
