Twin babies were found dead inside an apartment at the Woodside Houses in Woodside, Queens, Thursday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

NYPD Housing Chief David Barrere said police responded to the apartment at around 3:10 p.m. after receiving a 911 call from a family member who had spoken to the mom and was concerned about the children's well-being.

According to Barrere, when officers arrived, they found a six-week-old baby unconscious in a crib. Barrere says officers then found the second baby wrapped in a blanket under the sink after speaking to the mother.

EMS pronounced both babies dead at the scene.

The babies were fraternal twins - a boy and a girl, according to police.

Barrere said the mother of the children is in custody.

The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.
