NEW YORK - Thousands of New Yorkers have been coming together to condemn anti-Asian hate since the shootings at three spas in Atlanta.
But despite those messages of unity, incidents of harassment, abuse, and violence against Asian New Yorkers have continued.
The city's police department promises that it's taking this trend seriously.
Since the weekend, the NYPD is tracking at least five different hate crimes against Asian New Yorkers.
There have since been arrests made in four of the five cases.
The latest was made in connection with an attack on a woman who was on her way to an anti-hate crime rally on Sunday.
Speaking with "Mornings on 1" Tuesday, Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said incidents like this have become a disturbing trend.
"It's really sickening when you see when you read these cases one after another and you see what people are being subjected to and it's really important that we all come together and denounce it," Shea said.
The commissioner says his department is working with Asian organizations to stop the violence.
