QUEENS, N.Y. - A fast-moving storm that swept through the five boroughs on Tuesday caused some damage in Kew Gardens.

The storm took down several large branches that landed on top of homes and cars.

Most of the damage appeared to be on Audley Street and Beverly Road.

"My wife and I were sitting in the kitchen. We heard a loud crash, the house shook, and came running out and this tree hit the house, had hit the house," one homeowner said.

That homeowner said he had complained to the city several times about the massive tree that fell on his house.

"The sidewalk was cracked already, showing that there was some stress here. They said there's nothing they can do, we weren't allowed to cut it down because it's city property, so it's just a matter of time before what happened," the homeowner said.

The homeowner said there was damage to the house.

"I ran upstairs on the third floor. The tree came into two different rooms. Water was pouring in. There's a fair amount of damage," the homeowner said.

NY1 also spoke with a car owner whose vehicle was damaged.

As of Wednesday evening, 72 Con Ed customers were without power in Queens.

The utility expects all affected customers to have service restored by 11 p.m.
