NEW YORK - Much to the dismay of President Donald Trump, a Black Lives Matter mural is being painted in front of Trump Tower on Manhattan's famed Fifth Avenue.
Traffic is closed between 56th and 57th streets as city DOT crews apply the paint.
Mayor Bill de Blasio, who made the decision to install the mural in front of Trump Tower, and first lady Chirlane McCray joined crews as the bold letters were painted with yellow paint.
Last week, the mayor responded to the president's reaction on Twitter saying he does not understand that “Black people BUILT 5th Ave and so much of this nation.”
De Blasio went on to say the “luxury” Trump mentions came from the labor of Black people, “for which they have never been justly compensated.”
Black Lives Matter street murals are being painted in each of the five boroughs.
One will be unveiled Thursday in Lower Manhattan alomg a stretch of Centre Street being called Black Lives Matter Boulevard.
