Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and Public Advocate Jumaane Williams are calling on the NYPD to file charges against a white woman who called police on a black man who asked her to leash her dog in Central Park.
On Monday, Amy Cooper's dog was running free in the park's Ramble when Christian Cooper (no relation) said her dog should be leashed.
She became hysterical and alleged Chrisitian Cooper was threatening her and called 911.
Video of part of the interaction between the two went viral on social media.
Now, Adams and Williams want the NYPD to press charges against Amy Cooper for reporting a crime that never happened.
Both officials say if the video never went viral, Christian Cooper could be in jail right now.
"Those responding police officers should have looked at that tape and immediately arrested Amy Cooper," Adams said
"Where you reach out and know that your actions are illegal in nature and that a crime did not take place," Williams said. "To then say 'We have bigger fish to fry,' how dare you! How dare you!"
Police say no complains were filed from either party.
They are reviewing the incident and are in touch with the Manhattan District Attorney.
The Human Rights Commimssion is investigating.
