The FAA is investigating after a very close call between two Delta planes on the runway at Kennedy Airport Friday night.

One plane was rolling on the runway about to take off, while another plane, which had just landed, crossed the same runway ahead of the first.

A recording of the near miss sheds light on the high pressure moment. Below, there is a brief transcription of part of the conversation:

- "Delta! Delta 300!!"

- "Delta 253 is aborting takeoff."

- "Delta 300, you were instructed to hold short of runway  22R."

- "Sorry about that, we missed that."

- "I said hold short of  22R and I asked you for the gate number."

- "That's my fault, I just heard what you said and repeated back the wrong thing."

The two planes were over a mile away from each other when the Air Traffic Controllers noticed.

The FAA says passengers from the arriving flight were able to get off normally, and the departing plane took off later for its final destination.
