BROOKLYN, N.Y. - One Brooklyn school has scrapped its Gifted and Talented program and the Department of Education is signing off on the plan.

In Prospect Heights, P.S. 9's School Leadership Team recommended implementing a school-wide enrichment model and doing away with the test-in G&T program.

The elementary school voted on it last June.

Now that the school has the DOE's stamp of approval, it can go forward with the changes. 

A department spokesperson released a statement saying, "The DOE supports schools in making decisions that benefit their school communities, and that PS 9 developed a proposal to begin the phase in of a school-wide enrichment model."

That model will start in the fall.

The department also says students already in the G&T program will have the option to continue in their current classes until graduation.
