The state DMV is saying there was a sharp increase in drivers license applications on Monday when the new Green Light Law took effect.
That's the law that allows undocumented immigrants to apply for a license.
The DMV says a total of 2,881 Class D standard permits were issued to residents in its state-operated offices on Monday.
On a normal day, the DMV issues about a thousand Class D permits.
We saw long lines at one DMV office in Queens on Monday.
Under the Green Light Law, DMV workers can no longer ask applicants their immigration status or require them to present a social security number.
