Officials hammered the inaugural nails for a new 10,000 square foot co-working space Wednesday.
The Parsons Boulevard space will house more than 90 small businesses and provide classes on bookkeeping, legal services and accessing capital.
Business owners can rent space for as little $25 a day or several hundred a month. Local leaders say it's important to help talented individuals in the neighborhood.
"We think people can live and work here in this community and we also want these small businesses to put down roots here and grow within the space,” said Hope Knight, President and CEO, Greater Jamaica Development Corporation.
The work space is expected to open this spring.
