NEW YORK - If you are headed out of town, you'll want to do it early.

AAA expects this to be the second busiest Thanksgiving for travel since it started tracking the numbers in 2000.

More than 55 million people are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home this weekend; 49 million will drive to their destinations and two million will travel through the area's three airports.

With so many people traveling, the TSA recommends travelers arrive at the airport at least hours before their scheduled flight.

Whether you're staying at home or getting out of town this holiday weekend, there's some transit schedule changes in effect.

If you're leaving the city, the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North are adding extra trains during peak hours.

That starts Wednesday afternoon, and all tickets will be offered at off-peak prices.

For drivers, the MTA is suspending all maintenence-related lane closures on bridges and in tunnels.

That will last until Monday morning.

Free rides are being offered on Q70 select buses to LaGuardia, as the MTA looks to cut down on congestion on city streets.

And for Thanksgiving Day only, subways and buses will operate on a Sunday schedule, to get parade-goers to Midtown.
