A ruptured gas line caused a massive sinkhole to erupt on a Bronx street Thursday, according to Con Edison.

It happened around 2:50 p.m. near East Clarke Place and Walton Avenue in the Mount Eden neighborhood.

No one was injured, but nearby cars were damaged, officials said.

Con Edison told NY1 that its crews had installed a new gas pipe and were testing it with air pressure. They said there was no gas in the pipe at the time of the rupture.

The test failed, according to Con Ed, resulting in the buildup of air pressure, which caused the ground above to rupture.

Con Ed says there was no "explosion," as that implies combustion with a catalyst.

Emergency crews were working to clean up the sinkhole in the early evening.
