NEW YORK - Support is pouring in for a man in Manhattan after he tweeted video of himself getting harassed at a subway station Monday.

Adam Eli says a man followed him out of the 28th Street subway station in Chelsea, yelling homophobic remarks.

Eli says he was targeted because he was wearing a pink yarmulke and had a pride patch sewn on his jeans.

The man called Eli a Hebrew term for a Jewish person who desecrates the name of God.

Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted his support for Eli and praised him for sharing his experience, saying, "It takes courage to confront homophobia and tell a story like this...we’re proud of how you responded."

Earlier this year, the mayor's office said hate crimes against minorities were on the rise, with anti-Semitic incidents up by 90 percent.
