NEW YORK - A Manhattan judge this week has ruled that the NYPD must reveal the names of nearly all it's retired officers and their pensions.
In her ruling Monday, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Melissa Crane wrote that, "Public employees do not enjoy the same privacy rights as private-sector employees.”
The order marked a major victory for a watchgroup that tracks tax spending.
That group previously obtained data for seven years worth of NYPD pension amounts in 2014.
Those stats showed one retiree, receiving nearly 500-thousand dollars a year.
NYPD pensions are calculated based on an officer's length of service and average annual total income.
The ruling did exempt the names of former undercover officers being released.
A spokesman for the city Law Department, which represents the pension fund, says it is reviewing legal options.
