NEW YORK - A pedestrian and cyclist are in the hospital after colliding with each other Monday afternoon in Central Park.

It happened on the East River Drive near East 74th Street shortly before 3:30 p.m.

The 43-year-old cyclist is in critical condition with a head injury.

The 77-year-old pedestrian suffered only minor injuries.

The e-bike (prctured above) was left on scene for police to inspect.

Both were taken to Cornell Hospital.

Central Park went car free last summer. But parkgoers on foot and on wheels in Central Park say road rules are routinely ignored by all who use its streets.

"It is very stressful in doing the crosswalks because some people obey it and some people don't," said one parkgoer.

"I bike and I walk and I drive in the city and I find it, people just don't look out for each other. so when I'm biking people walk right in front of you as if you're not even there, they don't even look, it's crazy. when I'm walking I see bikers will zoom right by me," said another parkgoer.

Last year, the city reported 303 crashes between cyclists and pedestrians.

Of those, 270 pedestrians were injured; 55 cyclists were also hurt.

Police say the investigation into Monday's collision is ongoing.
