NEW YORK - A bicyclist is fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Queens overnight.
He is the third cyclist to be hit on a city street over the last 24 hours.
The first was struck on Staten Island, and the second was hit in Brooklyn.
Both of those cyclists died.
In the latest incident, police say a 28-year-old was struck by an SUV around 1 a.m. Wednesday while in the crosswalk at the intersection of Jamaica Avenue and Woodhaven Boulevard in Woodhaven.
The driver stayed on the scene and was not charged.
The bicyclist was taken to Jamaica Hospital in critical condition with head trauma.
On Staten Island, a 17-year-old boy was killed after a tow truck hit him while he was riding his bicycle Tuesday.
Police say the teen was riding his bike westbound on Castleton Avenue, and the truck was going southbound on Clove Road when they collided just after noon.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The 30-year-old driver stayed on the scene and no criminality is suspected, but police say the investigation is ongoing.
Also on Tuesday, police in Brooklyn say a 58-year-old man was riding southbound on McGuiness Boulevard near Norman Avenue when a box truck also going south on McGuiness hit him just before 4 p.m.
The cyclist was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
This makes 17 cyclist deaths in the city this year.
