A judge has put a temporary restraining order on the city's plans to close off 14th street to most vehicles.
Starting Monday, only buses and trucks would have been allowed to use 14th Street between Third and Ninth Avenues and M14 bus service would be reduced by 16 stops to make way for select bus service.
But several community groups filed a lawsuit earlier this week, claiming the city's proposal was originally made to coincide with the "L" train shutdown.
With the "L" train still running, they say the 14th street traffic plans are now unnecessary and inconvenient.
According to the lead attorney for the plaintiffs, the judge ruled that the DOT failed to thoroughly consider what the changes would mean for surrounding communities.
"Let us work through the details of the court case and I think the city feels like we've done the proper outreach, the proper environmental work and hopefully we'll get these adjudicated soon," said DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg.
Now, only M14 select bus service will go into effect next week as scheduled, while the rest of the plan is stalled until at least the next court date in August.
