Thousands of runners took extra pride in their sport this morning.
They were in Central Park, setting a world record for the largest pride charity run.
This is the 38th year of the pride run, and in its first year there were fewer than 500 runners.
Today, ten thousand people are registered, and organizers expect to set that record for most number of runners participating in a charitable run for pride.
The president of New York Road Runners spoke about what makes today's race special.
"We wanted to make it really part of the overall celebration for pride, and we really think it's so important, and we have such a great community here in New York City and we wanted to really celebrate it so we thought why not do something special in partnership with our running group frontrunners who all year round celebrate, so we want to celebrate it today," said Michael Capiraso, President of New York Road Runners.
The race was a five mile loop that heads north around Central Park and south down the west side.
Even in today's heat and humidity, runners say they were excited to support each other every step of the way.
