BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The primary for the borough's 45th City Council district was decided Tuesday night, with Farah Louis declaring victory.

It's a position formerly held by current Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.

Louis got more than 4,000 votes. It was the second time she made a bid for the seat.

She was named the acting Council member after winning a special election last month.

The 45th district encompasses neighborhoods like Flatbush, Midwood, Flatlands and Canarsie.

If Louis wins the general election in November, she will finish out Williams' term, which runs through 2021.
