Megan Hilty has shared her vocal gifts for years on Broadway and on the TV show about musicals “Smash,” but she's kicking it up a notch in her new role.
Hilty voices a Koala bear on T.O.T.S., an animated series on the Disney Junior channel.
"T.O.T.S. is about a baby delivery service and it's all storks that are delivering these babies, except for our stars, Pip and Freddy,” Hilty told NY1 when she visited our offices. “They're a flamingo and penguin, [and] I play KC the koala, who takes care of all the baby animals and introduces them to Pip and Freddy before they take them to their forever home."
The show is already a hit with Hilty's young kids who got a preview of the show. Her daughter in particular is very enthusiastic.
"She asked me who plays the babies like, “Who does the baby voices?’ and I told her they hire small children, and she was like, ‘I could do that!’ and I was like, ‘Woah, woah woah,’" Hilty laughed.
Hilty is also teaming up with Jessie Mueller from the musicals “Waitress” and “Beautiful” in a new lifetime movie about the friendship of country music icons Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn. The movie will premiere in October.
"We sang all of the music I think that's really important too because I certainly do not claim to be a Patsy Cline mimic, but I feel like if we were lip-synching to their voices there would be a disconnect," said Hilty.
Despite excitement for her upcoming shows and films, Hilty says strangers always ask the same question: when will Ivy Lynn and the rest of the “Smash” team return.
"With all these reboots that are happening, everyone's kind of expecting that we would either get another season somehow or that it would have another life on Broadway. I recently heard, like, a promise of it moving on in some capacity,” Hilty said. “Whether it's true or not, or whether it actually happens, who knows. I mean, yeah, maybe I'll be putting back on my Ivy boots!"
Sounds like more than a glimmer of hope for “Smash” fans!
