BRONX, N.Y. - A city firefighter was among four American soldiers that were killed by a roadside bomb Monday in Afghanistan.

Firefighter Christopher Slutman worked at Ladder 27 in the Claremont section of the Bronx.

He also served as a U.S. Marine.

The 15-year fire department veteran was awarded the Fire Chiefs Association Memorial Medal in 2014 for rescuing an unconscious woman from a South Bronx fire.

Three service members and a contractor were killed when their convoy hit a roadside bomb near the Bagram Air Base.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack after the killings.

Seven Americans have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.
