One of the men charged in the death of NYPD Detective Brian Simonsen says the robbery was a prank gone wrong.
Christopher Ransom told The Daily News, Jagger Freeman was filming the fake robbery to get laughs online. Ransom says he considers himself a "shock value comic."
Ransom and Freeman face a number of charges, including murder, manslaughter and assault in connection to Simonsen's death.
The detective was shot by friendly fire while responding to a robbery at a T-Mobile store in Richmond Hill, Queens in February.
Ransom allegedly flashed a fake gun at officers, prompting them to open fire.
Police say Freeman acted as his lookout.
