The NYPD says 24-year-old Anthony Comello is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a reputed mob boss on Staten Island.

Gambino Crime family leader Francesco Cali was gunned down Wednesday night in front of his home in Todt Hill.

Cops say it all went down after a pickup truck slammed into Cali's SUV, and he stepped out of his house to see the damage.

Detectives say he and that driver spoke for a bit, and that's when they say Comello allegedly pulled out a gun and shot Cali 10 times.

Although police have someone in custody, the investigation is far from over.

"Not yet three days into this investigation, certainly the priority was getting the individual responsible for the murder off the street. That has been accomplished. As we move forward let me again reiterate, this is far from over, we are at the beginning stages of this investigation. Was he acting alone, was he acting for other people, are there others involved, what are the motives?" said Dermot Shea, Chief of Detectives, NYPD.

Sources told NY1, one motive that's being looked at is that Cali may have disapproved of Comello wanting to date one of his family members.

The NYPD said Comello was picked up in New Jersey, and they expect him to be extradited to the city to face murder charges.

Cali is the first Gambino crime family boss to be murdered in the city since Paul Castellano back in 1985.
