A Staten Island woman is sealing herself into the history of one Queens company.
Brittany Lara is the first female field employee to be hired at Donnelly Mechanical based in Queens Village. The Tottenville resident is a field service helper, which means she assists maintaining heating, ventilation and air conditioning, or HVAC, systems, and responds to emergency service calls.
While the 30-year-old company does have women working in the office, employees say it is uncommon to see women working in the field.
"I hope that other women want to do the same thing. You, know, a lot of women feel like they can't do stuff like that. It's for a man, and that's not true," said Lara.
Lara aims to be senior mechanic in five years.n
