Buffalo firefighters are now working 24-hour shifts as part of their new contract.

The eight-year deal requires crew members to work on an eight-day schedule, 24 hours on, 24 hours off, then another 24 hour shift before having five days off.

The Buffalo Fire Department has 700 firefighters, most of which are in support of the change. The contract notes that the 24-hour shifts are in line with other similarly sized fire departments.
