Legendary rapper Biggie Smalls is one step closer to being honored in the streets where he grew up in a major way.

The City Council voted unanimously—48 to 0, with three abstentions—in favor of co-naming part of St. James Place in Brooklyn "Christopher Wallace Way."

The legislation will now go to Mayor Bill de Blasio for his signature, if he approves.

The hip-hop icon was shot to death in 1997, but his music is still played worldwide and he continues to stay on many fans shortlist as one the greatest rappers to have ever lived.
