The NYPD joined the fight for veteran suicide prevention by taking part in the 22 Pushup Challenge.
The social media campaign was launched in 2013 as a way to raise awareness for the 22 Veterans who commit suicide everyday.
"We all have the important responsibility to make sure people know they’re not alone in times of crisis,"Monahan said.
Chief Monahan is also urged New Yorkers in distress to call the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK.
US Veteran Affairs department researchers estimated veteran suicides by comparing the percentage of reported veteran deaths by suicide in 21 states from 1999 to 2011 with the number of suicides in America.
