Police are looking for an arsonist suspected of setting three fires Tuesday around 12 a.m. inside a Midtown hotel.
Investigators say a woman used an open flame to set fire to the inside of a hotel room at the Staybridge Suites on West 40th Street.
Police say she also set fire to two garbage cans in the hallways of two other floors.
Two people suffered minor injuries.
"By the time I got to I'd say the sixth floor, the stairwell was crowded and people were leaving the floors. The response was quick, the hotel staff along with the fire department were able to get the guests out of their rooms pretty fast,” one resident said.
"Three separate fires in a fireproof building is pretty unusual,” FDNY Manhattan Borough Commander Roger Sakowich suggested.
Police say the woman fled the scene eastbound on West 40th Street.
She's described as between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds with black hair in a ponytail. She was last seen wearing a black shirt, black pants and black shoes.
