NEW YORK - Glamping, or glamorous camping, on Governors Island, the former military base turned park.

This summer for the first time visitors can spend the night there. A company called Collective Retreats literally set up camp on one of the most picturesque points of the island.

I checked in at the lodge and found my tent. And it's some tent.

They have beds. And chairs. And linens. That's the glamping part. You don't have to pitch it yourself. You don't need a sleeping bag. It's almost like a hotel room.

There are bathrooms and showers to share. Tents start at $150 a night - the even more luxurious tents have their own baths and toilets. Those start at $450 a night up to $700. Weekends of course are more expensive because of higher demand.

"When you build such a cool experience, people are really interested in coming, and we are flattered that is taking place," explained Vanessa Vitale, Collective Retreats Managing Director.

And no cooking on a little camp stove here. You can be served gourmet meals at the Three Peaks Lodge, prepared by head chef Jason Rutigliano.

As for the view of the Lower Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty when the sun goes down? It looks gorgeous even on a rainy night.

And the view when you wake up - not too shabby.
