AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police confirm that a call for a suspicious package at a far north Austin middle school was a false alarm.
The report of a suspicious package at at Canyon Vista Middle School, 8455 Spicewood Springs Road, was called in around 8:45 a.m. Thursday.
Students in the school's outbuildings were evacuated as a precaution, but after investigating, police confirmed that it ended up being nothing, praising the school for reporting regardless for safety.
Canyon Vista is part of Round Rock ISD.
Letter sent to parents, guardians and staff of Canyon Vista:
Dear Canyon Vista parents, guardians, and staff,
Taking the appropriate safety precautions, students in our portable buildings were evacuated into the campus building at approximately 8:45 a.m. as the Austin Police Department investigated a suspicious package in the area. Through the investigation it was found that the package was an empty box and posed no threat to students or staff at any time.
During the investigation, students and staff remained safely in the building and continued the academic day once cleared by the APD at 9:45 a.m. We are extremely proud of the way our students and staff responded to the incident this morning.
