AUSTIN, Texas — A SWAT situation has ended peacefully in South Austin after a man threatened police with a baseball bat.
The incident happened in the 6300 block of Shadow Bend at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
A neighbor called about a disturbance. When police arrived, a man in his 20s had a baseball in hand and began threatening officers.
Per police protocol, SWAT was called out to assist.
The man quickly surrendered himself to police without incident.
Austin Police officer Destiny Winston said SWAT came in full tactical gear as a precaution.
"Something like a baseball bat is a weapon, right? So, you can kill someone with a baseball bat. So, what we want to do is to make sure everyone is safe,” she said. “We want to make sure the person refusing to come out remain safe and then our officers remain safe, that's the utmost importance. So, we make sure we take all precautions."
The man was taken to a nearby hospital. There were no reported injuries.
